Problems associated with the South Main Street construction project are continuing.
The latest hiccup occurred just before 11 a.m. Friday when workers inadvertently hit a natural gas line, causing a leak at 735 South Main near the VFW post and 4 One 2 distillery, arcade and restaurant. A number of nearby citizens and occupants were evacuated so that Michigan Gas Utilities could repair the lines.
The location of the leak was less than a block north of the Wayland Area Emergency Medical Services building on the border of the city with Wayland Township.
The Wayland City Police Departmen t posted on Facebook, “There was a major gas line break in the area of South Main and South Locust. The neighborhoods to the east are being evacuated. Please stay away from the immediate area until it is all clear. We will post when it is safe to go back. Thank you for your understanding. You may also call Allegan County Dispatch at 269-673-3899.”
Authorities said area residents were back in their homes again by late afternoon.
Who’s responsible for hiring this contractor? I thought the project’s length time was a bit of a stretch to begin with, now they’ve hit a gas line twice. Who’s running the crew, the three stooges?
Fwrf, Really??? Play nice already. My opinon, my choice.
Ditto! When we see another one of your my opinion my choice. ????
As a resident on Main, I can also say they have hit an AT&T phone land line. They also seem to be way behind the initial schedule. They are still working on the storm drains which was to be installed between May 13th and June 13th.
