Geneva Wykowski, 96, was longtime educator, principal

Geneva Wykowski, 96, of Wa2992729yland, died Tuesday, March 3, at her home.

Mrs. Wykowski was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Byron Center, the daughter of Baltas and Katherine (Simon) Wolf. She graduated from Bryon Center High School, and later earned her teaching certificate. She taught kindergarten at both Hopkins and Wayland for many years. She retired with the Kentwood Public School System, as the principal of Southwood Elementary after serving 15 years.

She was a life member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Wayland, taught the R.C.I.A. for many years, and was an active member of the Christian Service Group, a charter member of Our Lady of Lourds Circle for more than 50 years.

She and her husband, Raymond, both spent their lives sponsoring young men into the priesthood. Geneva also volunteered with Wings of Hope Hospice for more than 17 years.

She was an avid bowler, heading to the lanes three times a week, and bowling into her 90s. She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Mounted Division of the Allegan County Sheriff.

Surviving are many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and countless godchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Raymond, two brothers: Leo and Don; and her sister: Neola.

Friends may meet with the family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 3:30. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church in Wayland, on Saturday, March 7, at 10 am, with a time to visit one hour prior to the Mass at Church. Rev. Fr. Chuck Fischer, celebrant. Private interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
