Prison sentence given to GR man in Wayland shooting

A 24-year-old Grand Rapids man arrested by Wayland City Police on Nov. 1, 2020, has been sentenced to 23 months to 10 years in prison. in connection with a shooting and stalking incident.

Wayland police were summoned to the 3500 block of Toronto Trail in the city of Wayland, for a report of gunshots fired into a residence. Officers found several shell casings and several apparent bullet holes in the residence. No persons were struck or injured.

Local police officers developed a person of interest, Rodney Sylvester Savis Jr., who was then arraigned in Allegan County on charges of Intentionally discharging a firearm at a dwelling, punishable by 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. He also was charged with carrying a firearm during commission of a felony, a 10-year felony, and aggravated stalking, a five-year felony.

Wayland Police were assisted by the U.S. Marshals, The Grand Rapids Police, the Michigan State Police and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
