William “Bill” M. Merchant, 77, paternal grandfather of four of the most famous female athletes in Wayland, died Thursday after a brief illness on what coincidentally would have been his Mother’s 100th birthday.
Merchant was grandfather of Nikki Cardosa and Jessica, Brittini and Macy Merchant, and he was the father of Wayland High School junior varsity basketball coach Bill Merchant.
Surviving are his children, Sue (Marty) Tourangeau, Lisa (Chris) Taylor, Bill (Deb) Merchant, Keri (Tim) Meyer; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Bob (Sue) Merchant; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudene and mother, Belva Keith.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held. Memorial contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to a charity of ones choice.
