My grandmother was born in 1900 and lived to be 94 years of age.
One of my favorite story memories of her was that she and my grandfather had gone to the world’s fair in Chicago in 1933. This was the year Kraft had introduced Miracle Whip.
I remember her saying she lived from seeing a horse and buggy to a man on the moon.
Grandma’s German Potato Salad
5 pounds potatoes
1 pound of bacon cut into 1-inch squares
1 medium diced onion
2/3 cup miracle whip
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
Salt to taste
Cover potatoes with water in stock pot, add a couple good punches of salt and boil until just fork tender. Drain potatoes in colander and cool. Peel with paring knife and cut into 1/2 inch cubes. Set aside.
In same stock pot, cook bacon squares until the grease appears, add and cook onion until it is translucent, and bacon is crisp. Remove excess grease, leaving some in bottom of stock pot to sear and heat the potatoes. Stir in miracle whip and vinegar. Mix and heat thoroughly.
Enjoy!
