The Wayland Township Board Monday, Jan. 3, approved a preliminary plat plan for the Grandview Estates residential development on 129th Avenue.

The 20-unit project is not without opposition.

Planning Commissioner Ron DeVries told the board he voted against the plan because of concerns about drainage and his belief the location isn’t in the right spot for development, maintaining traffic could be congested too much in the area.

Resident Diane Wierenga insisted the township’s master plan suggested the land continue to be rural and she agreed with DeVries about water drainage issues.

The Planning Commission voted 4 to 3 at its Dec. 8 meeting to recommend the preliminary plat plan.

However, concerns about sidewalks also surfaced a month ago.
