Darrel Iven Lanning, age 91, of Dorr, died Saturday, Nov. 13.
He was born December 3, 1929, in Mancelona, to the late Perley and Mildred (Maddocks) Lanning. Darrel served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army.
He married Bertha M. Mullens on March 7, 1953, in Mancelona. Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage before Bertha passed away in 2015.
Darrel worked for Reynolds Aluminum for 36 years and was a member of the area United Church of God.
Survivors include his sons, Lawrence (Donna) Lanning and Darrel Lanning; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Elynore Allan of Tennessee; numerous cousins, especially Melvin (Donna) Lanning and Bravard Helms; plus lifelong friends, Dale and Dorothy McKay.
Darrel was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha; daughter-in-law, Denise Lanning; and brother, Allen.
A graveside service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at Dorr Township Cemetery. Darrel’s cremated remains will be buried there with Bertha’s.
