A Civil War gravestone dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 22, at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Monterey Township.

The ceremony will honor John H. Staring, who served in the Union Army. He joined the military on Feb. 15, 1864, and was a private in the 13th Michigan Infantry Company C.

Though wounded in action in Bentonville, N.C., he survived the war.

The dedication will be presented in partnership between the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and the Hopkins chapter of the Future Farmers of America (FFA).
