The Gun Lake Tribe of Potowatomis now has a one million gallon water tank, including the tribe’s logo, installed on its new water tower along the U.S. 131 expressway just south of Wayland.
The tower is expected ready by the end of this year. It is another piece of the expansion plans by providing water to the casino, its government buildings along 129th Avenue theNoonday gas station and convenience store.
The Gun Lake Tribe’s attempts for 131 expressway corridor expansion could result in tribal land north of the casino into a development with retail, health care, housing, manufacturing, entertainment and dining. The tribe now owns owns land north of the casino all the way to Wayland.
Gun Lake Tribal Chairman Bob Peters said in a prepared statement,“This water infrastructure improvement and the raising of this highly visible landmark near our government campus is the culmination of thousands of hours of work by Gun Lake Tribe’s Land Use, Planning and Development Department. We’re constructing these upgrades to not only meet our needs today, but to benefit future generations as we continue to develop and improve our sovereign land.”
