Gun Lake Tribe wins grant to combat climate change

The Gun Lake Tribe has announced it has been awarded two separate grants by the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs’ Branch of Tribal Climate Resilience (TCR).

The grant funding comes from programs created between tribes and the federal government designed to mitigate climate change. The tribe will use the funds to purchase electric fleet vehicles and new EV chargers to install a solar array and to plan for reuse of graywater at the tribe’s facilities.

“We applaud the federal government for collaborating with our tribe to create programs like these to reverse the negative impacts of climate change,” said Tribal Chairman Bob Peters. “I thank our government staff who effectively shared our vision with the BIA to support climate initiatives and water conservation right here in Allegan County.”

One grant awarded is $189,844 for the Gun Lake Tribal Graywater Reuse Plan project, which will plan for graywater reuse in an effort to reduce water drawn from the tribe’s aquifer. The tribe will work with experts to develop a plan for water reuse and an outline of the permitting process along with high-level budget estimates and time frames for future implementation.

The other award is $4 million for the Gun Lake Tribe Electric Infrastructure Implementation Project. This grant includes purchase of electric vehicles and necessary chargers to replace existing gas vehicles in the tribe’s fleet. It also will pay for installation of a solar array to provide renewable energy to the Gun Lake Tribal Government, reducing its consumption of power generated by greenhouse gas emitting coal fired power plants.

In accordance with the tribe’s mission to “Maintain our elders’ vision, integrity, spirituality, culture and economic self-sufficiency by protecting our sovereignty, treaty rights, traditions, land and natural resources for our future generations,” the tribe implements many initiatives to reduce climate related impacts.

The Gun Lake Tribe will implement these programs under a category of federally recognized tribes known as “self-governance.” The tribe achieved this status several years ago, which permits greater autonomy to administer grant-funded programs such as the two climate change programs. This allows the tribe to design programs in a way that fits its specific circumstances and goals and objectives.

Achieving self-governance status required the tribe to demonstrate it met a set of criteria that included “three prior fiscal years financial stability by having no uncorrected significant and material audit exceptions in the required annual single audit of its self-determination or self-governance agreements.”

So…an entity flush with money that pays no federal taxes gets federal gift (grant) to solve a nonexistent problem. Got it!

      Mr. Borgic,
Don’t you understand? A young girl stomps her feet, glares at the audience, and begins by telling them they are selfish, destructive, and destroying any chance kids her age will live in a viable world. Begin the violin music.

Biden, the dumbest president we ever had and a dementia patient, declares we will be going all electric vehicles. Hooray, problem solved!!!

Ah Joey, where does the electricity come from? It sure isn’t from wind farms and solar panels (both manufactured in China). I guess your idea wasn’t so great after all???

Joe has never been right about anything in his life. He even had to drag old war horse Clinton and bungling Obama in to get campaign money from billionaires loving stupid Joe. Ever notice the Democrats are now the monied party?

      It’s sick and getting sicker.

  2. More Delusions and confusion from DTOM, “Donald Trump promised to keep billionaires’ taxes low at a fundraising dinner Saturday night in Palm Beach, Fla., held at the home of billionaire John Paulson.

Trump’s campaign told media that the fundraiser yielded more than $50.5 million for Trump’s campaign, his political action committee, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and state parties — although that total has not been independently verified. If Trump’s numbers are accurate (reminder: a court found that Trump committed fraud by lying about his net worth), they would set a record and nearly double the $26 million Biden brought in during a New York City fundraiser with former presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.

Some billionaires who abandoned Trump in the wake of Jan. 6 and who supported his opponents in the primary have come crawling back to the former president in hopes of keeping their tax burden low.

Billionaire investor Nelson Peltz — who apologized after Jan. 6 for supporting Trump, telling CNBC, “I’m sorry I did that” — recently hosted a breakfast at his Palm Beach mansion attended by Trump and several other billionaires, including Steve Wynn and Elon Musk, according to The Washington Post. Oracle’s Larry Ellison is also considering cutting Trump’s campaign a check, while billionaire heirs Richard and Elizabeth Uihlein told the Financial Times that they intend to donate to the former president’s campaign.

“While Donald Trump has been busy awarding himself golf trophies at Mar-a-Lago and palling around with billionaires, Joe Biden has been crisscrossing the nation connecting with voters and outlining his vision to grow our economy from the bottom up and the middle out,”

Gee Mr. FRWF, you answered nothing about the subject matter, but I understand completely. Progressives (aka socialists) are not good readers as their attention span is limited. You might want to let go of all that Trump hate, it does no good for your mental health. And kicking the dog isn’t good either!

      • So what I can’t understand stand is why are you responding to DTOM when you’re BM, I also came to the conclusion that when BM showed up David disappeared hmm. One can only assume that someone has Dissociative identity disorder. Who ever the you are.

          Mr. FRWF,
I think the person with DID is you, having no idea who or what you are. I know you “Progressives” are anything but.

I have studied you folks for years.

You all believe you are the smartest persons in the room, no matter what. I have a great admiration for the educated among us usually, unless the identify themselves as “progressives” – as most are not, they are staunch Marxists.

Old time Liberals are extinct. I could have rational conversations with Liberals and agree to disagree and remain friends. Those days may be over.

          And so it goes….
