Amanda Haverdink of Hamilton, was crowned Miss Allegan County Saturday, July 25.
Haverdink, 19, a 2013 graduate of Hamilton High School, attends Grand Valley State University, where she studies music education. Her personal platform is ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease Awareness and Fundraising for Research. She was inspired to choose this platform after witnessing a member of her own family battle ALS.
Besides her $1,000 scholarship, Haverdink will move on to compete in Muskegon in June 2016 for the title of Miss Michigan.
Shelby Lentz, 18, of Plainwell was named first runner up and she receives a $500 Scholarship. Lentz was also the Talent Award recipient for her vocal rendition of “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” winning an additional $100 scholarship. Twenty-two year old Allie Siegler of Allegan was named Spirit of Miss Allegan County. Brook Glessner, 18, of Otsego was the People’s Choice.
Jessica Myers, 15, of Plainwell was crowned Miss Allegan County’s Outstanding Teen. She receives a $500 scholarship, along with the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss Michigan’s Outstanding Teen in June 2016. She performed a Tap Dance to the song “Swing Set,” and was also named the Outstanding Teen Talent Award Winner, receiving an additional $50 scholarship. Kennedy Kramer, 16 of Hamilton, was the Spirit of Miss Allegan County’s Outstanding Teen and Outstanding Teen People’s Choice winner.
