It was perhaps the most unusual weather event in Wayland, Hopkins, Dorr, Moline and Martin in a very long time around 6 p.m. Tuesday evening. A brief, but violent hailstorm visited these parts, tossing marble-sized pellets of ice everywhere, frightening some homeowners and residents into believing there could be serious damage done to windows, trees and cars that weren’t parked inside garages. Dr. Bruce Sexton declared on Facebook that it was the worst hailstorm he’s ever seen. Some observers insisted the icy substances were larger than marbles and posted photos that backed up their contentions. However the fierce and unusual storm relented and quieted down after only about 15 to 20 minutes.
