Harmony Laker: 38 points!

This is a good basketball team that has suffered strange lapses this season.

That could be an apt description of the Wayland girls’ basketball squad this year, showing brilliance at times  and frustrating end of game troubles otherwise.

Fresh from a 51-50 one-point loss to undefeated O-K Gold Conference rival Grand Rapids Catholic Central Friday night, the Lady Wildcats came up with a dominating 72-56 performance over a decent South Christian outfit. South Christian entered the game tied with the Wildcats for third place in the league standings.

Perhaps the highlight of the contest was junior Harmony Laker scoring 38 points, just two fewer than the school record shared by Presley Hudson and Angie Farmer. It was the third time this month that Harmony has scored more than 30 points.

Laker now has 1,000 career points, and she’s just a junior.

Sophomore Addie Sikorsky dropped in 17 points and sophomore Laney Wolf added eight.

The Lady Wildcats now are 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the O-K Gold standings, tied with Cedar Springs for second place.

The Wildcat boys’ team record fell to 2-12 overall with a 77-24 loss to South Christian Monday night.
