Has herbicide spray killed Gun Lake fish, wildlife?

Residents at Gun Lake are questioning whether herbicide spraying has resulted in a fish kill on Pickeral Cove .

One resident posted on Facebook they they’re seeing seeing dead minnows or fish and they ask fellow residents to take photos and report it to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This photo supposedly indicated the beginning of a die-off.

One poster commented, “Herbicide was sprayed along the wetlands on the south end, and it’s deadly to fish and amphibians.”

The DNR office in Plainwell can be contacted by calling (269) 685-6851f.

Another Facebook poster said, “It can’t hurt to report it to EGLE (Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy). The complaint form will let you add photos “

Yet another suggested, “Something to keep in mind is with the high temps all fish, including minnows, are affected by the high water temps. Absolutely could still be the herbicide or a combination.”

Given the shenanigans Godley is up to, I think it wise to report this. It may be due to temps, but it could also be someone with a vested interest using unauthorized chemicals. Take pictures and report. Vigilance is the key to protecting the health of the precious jewel that is Gun Lake.
