Travis Farris, the coach who guided the Martin High School football team last fall and oversaw the end of a 56-game losing streak, will not be back at the helm this season.

Farris, who in his first season as head coach led the Clippers to a 2-7 overall record, will stay on as an assistant for new head coach Randy Hunt, who was a junior high grid coach a year ago.

Farris apparently interviewed for a teaching post earlier this year at Lowell and thought he would get the job, so he resigned at Martin. However, he remains as a physical education instructor and strength coach and he has agreed to come back as an assistant.

Farris, a 2012 graduate of Olivet College and a Middleville Thornapple Kellogg High School alum, was on the sidelines when Martin ended the awful losing streak that stretched out over more than six seasons with a 34-14 victory over Bellevue. The Clippers later defeated Bloomingdale 14-0 and lost only 14-12 to Lawton.

The victory over Bellevue was Martin’s first since Oct. 27, 2007.

Efforts to reach Martin Athletic Director Robert Vandenberg about developments were not successful.
