Dessert First!

Here’s a few more sweet treat recipes from “A Taste of America Extension Homemakers” of Allegan County Cookbook 1976.

The word “dessert” comes from the French restaurant dessirvers (servers) meaning to clear the table. The term was first used when after the final course of the meal had been served and all the dishes were removed to bring out the sweet treats.

The word became common in usage in the early 1900’s.
