The softball teams that play regularly at the Hilliards Park want to name the ballpark after Douglas Adamczyk, beloved longtime local resident who died June 19.
The Hopkins Township Board fielded the request and added its blessing without reservation Monday night.
Supervisor Mark Evans and volunteer Joe Weber will help coordinate the effort to place signs at the fields.
In other business at Monday night’s meeting, the Township Board:
- Noted payment of $128,000 to the Allegan County Road Commission for work done on 122nd Avenue.
- Adopted an amendment to the flood plain ordinance, which adds official mapping to the document.
- Agreed to have the township ordinance book updated with American Eagle for the first time since 2016, at a cost of $1,522.
- Learned from Evans that work on the township hall addition between the library and village hall is proceeding apace by Reith-Reilly and the color of the building with a grayish blue with a snow trim.
- Was told the next revenue sharing meeting with the Gun Lake Casino will be Wednesday, July 19.
- Agreed with citizen Bob Beck in praising Bob Larr and village officials who installed a small memorial to township veterans at the park next door to the library.
