The Hopkins Township Board Monday night approved the expenditure of up to $6,000 for improvements at the Hilliards Park on 135th Avenue next to the General Store.
The board had approved a bid of $5,500 for the work on improvements and Supervisor Mark Evans recommended another $500 be budgeted for leveling the ground by the bathroom.
The improvements include enlarging the doors of the two buildings and making the sidewalk bigger and, as Evans said, “fixing and making what we have out there more eye appealing.”
The board earlier had believed the work at the park would be more expensive ($17,288) because of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, but later learned ADA compliance is not required.
The board was told the softball field is just about ready for this spring and summer seasons.
