Hit-and-run motorist who struck bicycler being sought

The Michigan State Police WState Police logoayland Post is asking for help in locating the suspect motorist in a hit and run personal injury crash at about 10:25 p.m. Wednesday on 135th Avenue near 6th Street in Wayland Township.

It appears a 35-year-old victim from the Wayland area was pushing his bicycle on the shoulder of the roadway when a newer, red, Ford pickup truck traveling east bound on 135th Avenue struck him from behind as he walked down the road. A witness said the suspect vehicle continued east on 135th Avenue and did not stop at the scene.

The victim received serious injuries from the crash and was taken by Wayland EMS to Metro Hospital in Grand Rapids. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in the incident.

The Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department, Wayland Police Department, Gun Lake Tribal Police, Wayland Fire Department and Wayland EMS.
