Hopkins Alumni Banquet canceled 2nd straight year

The Hopkins High School Alumni officers have announced the postponement of the annual alumni potluck for the second year in row, once again because of the Covid-19 viral pandemic.

Alumni Association Treasurer Bob Hennip said, “We (the officers) have been discussing this among ourselves since late February, and because of the latest surge, the announcement last week that less than one-fourth of the state’s residents are fully vaccinated, and our concern for all the people and the age group that regularly attend the potluck. We feel it is in everyone’s best interest that we postpone until June of 2022, when perhaps we can return to normal.”

The potluck this year originally was scheduled for Saturday, June 19. It has now been rescheduled for noon Saturday, June 18, at the Hopkins High School cafeteria. The graduating classes of 1970, 1971 and 1972 will be honored.

The Alumni Association will present two scholarships to students from Hopkins Class of 2021. It has awarded 33 such scholarships since 2003. Anyone who wishes to donate to the fund may contact Hennip at 3664 18th St., Wayland MI 49348. Those who wish to donate in honor or in memory of someone should indicate so in the communication.
