The Hopkins Area Fire Department recently was awarded a grant from the Leland Gayheart Prevention Award.
This award is given out by the University of Michigan – Trauma Burn Center and the Gayheart family. It is awarded to a fire department that has shown excellent work in fire prevention programs.
Fire Chief Tim McKinnon said, “We will be using the money to update our fire prevention message signs that you see along various roads in our service area, as well as adding an additional sign. Leftover funds will be used for Scotty’s Fire House that elementary kids visit each year. We are very excited to be given this award and look forward to continuing to promote fire safety in our community!”
