Hopkins Athletic Hall of Famer Carol Guy, 87, dies

Carol Guy, age 87, of Grand Rapids, died Friday, May 3.

Mrs. Guy was recognized in 2016 for her volunteer efforts as the faithful keeper of the scorebook for Hopkins basketball over many decades. Athletic Director Adam Valk, who accepted the award on her behalf during the ceremony honoring the first recipients of the Hopkins High School Athletic Hall of Fame awards, said, “If you’ve ever been to a Hopkins athletic event, you know who Carol Guy is.”

She is survived by daughters Shelley Guy, Carolyn DeBoer, Sally Guy and Beth Zandstra, Bonnie Saunders; sons Duke Guy, Max (Hang) Guy; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 4330 18th St., Dorr. Relatives and friends may meet Carol’s family from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, at the funeral home as well as one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Carol to Hopkins Athletic Boosters and/or Wayland VFW Post #7581.
