The Hopkins softball and baseball teams both came away from Gobles Saturday with district championship trophies.

The Viking boys edged host Gobles in the opener by a 5-3 count and then blanked Saugatuck 10-0 in the finals. Their season record now is 20-4-1.

Hopkins will move on to the Division 3 regional tournament in Coloma at 10 a.m. Saturday to take on Buchanan. Schoolcraft and Watervliet will be the other two teams in the tourney.

The Lady Vikings’ softball team, meanwhile, won both of its district encounters by mercy rule, 12-2 over Saugatuck in the semifinals and 16-4 over Gobles in the finals. The victories lifted their overall season record to 18-9.

Hopkins now moves on to the Division 3 regionals at Coloma by taking on Buchanan at noon Saturday. The other two teams in the field are Schoolcraft and host Coloma.
