hopkins-basketballThe Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball team opened its 2016-17 season with a very loud bang Tuesday night at Maple Valley.

The Vikings crushed host Maple Valley 77-37 with a full-court press that coverted lots of turnovers into baskets. They jumped out to a 17-7 ljustin-weickead in the first quarter and doubled their cushion to 20 points at halftime, 35-15.

Hopkins cruised the rest of the way, outgunning the host Lions 42-22 to record a 40-point victory.

Senior Justin Weick led an impressive scoring parade with 17 points. Freshman Drew Weber added 11 and sophomores Hunter Lewellyn and Nolan Smith added 10 and nine points, respectively.

Coach Darrin Smith’s Vikings expect a tough test at home Friday evening when Hamilton pays a visit.
