The Hopkins boys’ varsity basketball team took a huge step toward taking over second place in the O-K Silver Conference standings.

The Vikings scored a resounding 68-49 victory over Calvin Christian to move into the runner-up slot all alone. 6-5 senior Colin Weber had a monster game, throwing down 23 points and dishing out four assists.

Hopkins now is 8-4 overall after taking a forfeit from Wyoming Lee Tuesday and is 6-2 in league play. Wyoming Godwin Heights is undefeated in the Silver and reigns on top.

The Lady Viking’s recent slump continued, however, as they lost by just two points to the Squires, 34-32. They laso lost Wednesday in a nonleague makeup to Allendale, 56-36. May Weber scored 11 points and Maya Kerber had 10.

Both teams are scheduled to play Belding Tuesday in their next encounter.
