Hopkins FFA students win a slew of district awards

The Hopkins FFA Demonstration team.

Twenty-seven members of the Hopkins FFA Chapter competed at the District Leadership Contest Jan. 30 at the Van Buren Technology Center. Some of the local students came home with medals, according to advisor Jessica Couch.

“Members have been working on developing their career development and leadership skills through various contests,” Couch said.

Those members who placed first or second will advance to the Regional Leadership Contests Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Calhoun Area Career Center. From there, the top two will advance to the state level contests held at MSU March 4-6.

The winners included:

• JH Conduct of Meetings Team — First place Gold Award with Max Langlois, Cobie Palmbos, Tally Laarman, Lena Germain, Emma Langlois, Baleigh Schricker and Allie Coffey.

• Demonstration Team — First place Gold Award with Valerie Nagengast, Ashton Dorman and Madison Ellis.

• Job Interview — Ethan Gilder first place Gold Award.

• Creed Speaking — First place, Stephanie Harvey; Extemporaneous Speaking: Caleb Tucker second place Gold Ward, Colby Tucker second place Gold Award and Alan Wells fourth place Silver Award.

• Greenhand Conduct of Meetings team — First place Gold Award, student teacher Ms. Gerloski, Emilie Coffey, Kera Miller, Makayla Boeske, Zoe Rissner, Gracie Langlois, Ashley Selvig and Leah Ellis

• Junior High Public Speaking — Carly Feekes, third place Silver Award, Ellie Carpenter, fourth place Silver Award, Paisley Dorman second place Silver Award.

• Prepared Public Speaking — Mary Wells fourth place Gold Award and Bailey Couch second place Gold Award.
