It wasn’t a particularly good day for Wayland and Hopkins at the Division 2 state meet Saturday at Zeeland.
The Wildcat boys scored just one point with an eighth-place finish in the 1600-meter relay and the Viking girls earned two points.
Wayland’s Ashton Ordway, Josh Butler, Seth Sevenski-Popma and Caleb Wolf hooked up for a time of 3:29.26 to place eighth in 1600 relay. The good news is that all will be back to compete again next season.
Wolf finished 16th individually in the open 400-meter run with a time of 51.55 seconds.
For the Hopkins girls’ squad, senior Brittney Houseman finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in 26.86 seconds.
Viking senior Meghan Schulz closed out her career at Hopkins by taking 14th in the shot put with a throw of 35-9.5, not her season nor personal best.
Hopkins junior Emma Helder finished 19th in the open 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.87.
Wildcat sophomore Corrina Courser had to scratch the 100-meter high hurdles. She had broken the school record less than two weeks ago.
