The Hopkins girls’ varsity track team captured the O-K Silver Conference championship Friday by taking first in the eight-team field of the league meet at Sparta.

The Lady Vikings amassed 165 team points to touch out the host school, which had 136. The Viking guys, meanwhile, checked in third with 91 points behind Sparta and Belding, only seven points away from second.

The Hopkins girls scored a lot of points on second-place finishes, but there were some O-K Silver champions:

  • Sophomore sprinter Riley Homrich crossed the finish line first in the in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.84 seconds and won the 200 by just five-hundredths of a second in 26.73 seconds.
  • Kambria Moored took second in the 100-meter hurdles, but came back to win the 300-meter hurdles in 49.21 seconds, the only sub-50-second effort in the race.
  • Moored, Tavaya Ingle, Andrea Brewer and Jaeden Harshberger teamed up to win the 1600 relay in 4:19.66.
  • Harshberger is tied for the school record in the high jump, but she only went 4-11 Friday to win that event.
  • Freshman Keilah Bonga captured first place in discus at 105-0, the only thrower to exceed 100 feet. 
  • Moored, Homrich, Ellarie Baugh and Sierra Emaus broke the school record in the 400-meter relay earlier this spring, but they had to settle for second, losing to Godwin by just 17-hundredths of a second.
  • Peyton Roxbury, Homrich, Emaus and Navaya Ingle hooked uo to turn in their season best time in the 800 relay, but had to play second fiddle to Godwin again.
  • Kate Cleypool, Lillian VandenBosch, Myah Duimstra and Lillian Dewey also had their best time in the 3200 relay, but was runner-up to Belding.
  • Peyton Roxbury and Ellarie Baugh went 2-3 in the pole vault.
  • And Emaus, Baugh and Vanessa Barry went 3-4-5 in the long jump.

For the boys’ team, Landen Klinge came within one inch of his school record of 13-7 in the pole vault, easily out clearing all comers.

Sophomore Clayton Kerber won the O-K Silver title in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.85 seconds, but settled for second in the 300 hurdles, despite a personal best time.

Jacob Helder joined the Hopkins Runner-up Club taking second, only 15-hundredths of a second away from the winner’s circle in the open 400. He also broke the school record earlier this spring.

Malachi Navis, Gage Martin, Klinge and Alexander Chavez finished second in the 800 relay.

Sophomore Jack Estelle turned in his best time of 10:08.87 in the 3200-meter run and was third.

Helder, Isaiah Robinson, Kaden Edwards and Estelle combined efforts to take second in the 3200 relay.
