Wayland’s boys defeated Hopkins on the bowling lanes earlier this season, but the Vikings turned the tables convincingly Thursday with a 20.5 to 9.5 verdict.

“Tonight the Cats got a little payback for an earlier match this season,” coach Sherry Mikluisicak said ruefully.

The first Baker game was taken by the Vikings 186 to 156. and then Wayland bounced back to take the second Baker, 172 to 150.

“Down 6 points to 4, we needed to step up, but bowled our lowest individual games to date,” Miklusicak said. “In the first set of individual games we could only muster a 737 for the 5 guys. When we are used to a couple of 200 games we had to settle for a high game by Austen Beggs with a 171.

“We tried a pep talk… we beat a mighty South Christian team…we could do this.”

The only 200 game for the afternoon, however, came from Hopkins’ Brenden Gossman who rolled a fine 245.

“We will go back to the drawing board with the importance of spare shooting….” the Wildcats’ coach promised.
