Hopkins graduate Lewis Geib dies at 38 in China

Lewis Geib, age 38, a 2003 graduate of Hopkins High School, died of natural causes Wednesday, April 19 in Beijing, China.

Lewis was born in Allegan and earned his degree in criminal justice from Western Michigan University. His passion for travel and teaching took him to China, where he began a teaching career before transitioning into working for the British Consulate. While spending time in China, Lewis met his wife, Fiona. They married in 2015 on Captiva Island in Florida and had their daughter, Lucy, in 2019.

Lewis was known for his infectious laugh, sense of humor and his kind and compassionate spirit. He loved spending time with family and friends. His daughter was the light of his life.

Lewis is survived by his mother, Ruth Hansen (Joe Motto); wife of eight years, Fiona Geib; child Lucy Geib; siblings Brian (Brenda) Geib, Michelle (Rick) Hazen, Tyson (Nikki) Geib, Regis (Jayia) Geib; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Geib.

A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
