Hopkins guys win 9th in a row to remain in 1st place

Hopkins claimed its 11th boys’ basketball victory in its last 12 encounters Tuesday night by downing Wyoming Godfrey Lee 71-48 to improve to 13-4 overall and  9-1 in the O-K Silver Conference.

The Vikings, who a week ago took over first place in the league standings, have won nine games in a row. After a disappointing start out of the gate, they got healthy and went on an 11-1 run after the holiday break.

Junior guard Colin Weber finished with 15 points, seniors Drew Weber and Tyler Zomerlei both added 11, and Nathan Tew had 7.

“We got out to an early lead with stingy defense and turning our defense into offense,” said coach Jake Jewett. “Lee had a strong third quarter and shot the ball extremely well. We answered back by executing vs. their zone and taking really good shots down the stretch.

The Lady Vikings took out Lee 60-10 to move their overall record to 10-7.

The Hopkins boys’ and girls’ teams both will play next on Friday at home vs. NorthPointe Christian.
