Madelyn Schans is getting the job done for Hopkins both offensively and defensively.

The Hopkins varsity softball team captured its sixth consecutive victory Friday afternoon with a 16-5 decision over Wyoming.

Hurler Madelyn Schans was able to overcome a shaky first inning yielding three runs, but settled down the rest of the way, going five frames, walking none and striking out two.

On the offensive side, Emma Martonosi had a bid day, driving in five runs with two single and a triple.

The Lady Vikings came up with a six-run rally in the third inning to take the lead. Schans started the uprising with a triple and and came home on a groundout by Morgan Dykstra. Martonosi then delivered a three-run triple.

They added six more in the fourth, with Schans, Martonosi, Hannah Wubben and Haleigh Miller recording the big hits.

Hopkins plated four runs in the fifth inning to end the contest because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The Lady Vikings now own a 7-2 overall record, 6-2 in O-K Silver Conference play. Their Kenowa Hills tournament this weekend has been called off because of anticipated inclement weather, but they’ll be back in action at home Monday against Belding.
