Hopkins native Bill Gilligan dies at 83 in Kalamazoo

William D. Gilligan, a native of Hopkins, died Sunday, May 19, at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. He was 83. 

He was born May 3, 1941, in Hopkins, the son of Walter and Georgia (Flynn) Gilligan. As a young man, Bill worked as a skilled mechanic at Stryker, retiring after 55 years. 

In his free time, Bill loved golfing and had gotten a hole in one at the States Golf Course in Vicksburg.

Bill moved to Florida where he enjoyed the warm weather, fishing and spending time with his many friends at the VFW, Legion, Eagles, Elk and Moose Lodge. Bill loved his family and often made trips back to Michigan to visit. 

Surviving are his two sons; several nieces and nephews; many great nieces and great nephews and many special friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joe Gilligan, Joey Hazzard and Roger Gilligan. 

According to his wishes cremation has taken place. 

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the States Golf Course in Vicksburg at a later time.
