Lady Vikings cop 2nd place in star-studded invitational

The Hopkins girls’ track team finished in second place in a star-studded 32-team U of M Health-West Scholarship Invitational Tuesday at Byron Center.

Neither the Wayland boys’ nor girls’ teams scored heavily because many Wildcats athletes were taking part at the athletic and academic honors banquet.

The Lady Vikings scored 51 points, eclipsed only by Forest Hills Central’s 57.

Not one of the Hopkins group took a first place, but many finished among the top four in their events.

Kambria Moored second place in the 100-meter high hurdles in 16.28 seconds and she was runner-up in the 300-meter hurdles, with a personal best 46.83 seconds.

Jaeden Harshberger also captured a second, in the high jump at 5-0.

But the Vikings did the bulk of their scoring in relays.

In the 400-meter relay they were fourth with Moored, Ellarie Baugh, Sierra Emaus and Riley Homrich, 50.25 seconds.

They took third in the 800-meter relay, with Peyton Roxbury, Navaya Ingle, Sierra Emaus, Riley Homrich in 1:49.89.

They were also third in the 1600-meter relay, with Kambria Moored, Andrea Brower, Navaya Ingle, Jaeden Harshberger in 4:19.66.

Others scoring points were Keilah Bonga, sixth in the discus at 102-10, and long jumper Vanessa Barry, third, with personal best 16-10.

All of Wayland girls’ points came from Kennedy Jasinski in the pole vault fifth at 10-6.

For the Hopkins guys, Landen Klinge, cleared 13-0 to finish sixth in the pole vault. Clayton Kerber was 10th in the 300-meter hurdles.

All of Wayland’s guys’ points were scored by Adam Huff in the shot pu, 55-5.5.
