The Hopkins Township Planning Commission Tuesday evening approved a special use permit request from Kevin VanderPloeg to expand his homestead property at 2684 12th Street.
VanderPloeg was asking for the commission’s blessing for him to add two acres to the north of his existing parcel, which would result in it being greater than what is allowed. VanderPloeg has indicated he intends to continue to use the added land for agricultural purposes. His current property includes 9.97 acres.
The applicant said he plans to buy the two acres and combine it with the existing parcel to make 12 acres.
The Planning Commission ruled that there would be no substantial change in the land, which is located just south of Hopkins Propane and 128th Avenue.
