Hopkins plans an all-day celebration of Fourth of July

The Hopkins Old-Fashioned Fourth of July celebration next week Thursday will feature a variety of events all day.

The community will have its holiday activities at the park in downtown Hopkins Village and it will include a corn hole tournament, pie baking contest, silent auction, a 5K race, a five-person bed race, petting zoo and a variety of foods provided by the Hopkins FFA.

The day will conclude with fireworks at dusk.

The schedule of events:

• 7:00 a.m. —  The Freedom 5K Run.

• 8 to 10 a.m. — Community-wide· pancake breakfast at the village park.

• 9 to 10:30 am — Non-denominational Praise and Worship Service.

• 11:30 a.m. — Bed races registration with a 12 noon start.

• Noon to 2 p.m. — Family games and music.

• Noon — Pie judging contest.

• Noon to 3:30 p.m. — Carnival games, including Frenzy Bounce Houses,  sponsored. by HOPE (tickets available for purchase).

• 1 to 4 p.m. —  Corn hole tournament on the soccer field.

• 2 p.m. — FFA kids’ tractor pull.

• 4 p.m. —  Kids’ parade. Line up at the fire barn at 3:45 p.m.

• 5 p.m. — Community parade. Line up behind the high school and middle school.

• 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. — Live music the stage next to the fire barn. Performing will be Dyland Wilson, “Uncle Betty” and the Williams Family.

An FFA petting zoo will be open all day as will the FFA food booth and silent auction.

The day will conclude with fireworks at dusk, once again courtesy of the Gun Lake Casino.
