Hopkins, Reynolds seem to be back to their old selves

Lyla Reynolds and the Hopkins softball team are back in the saddle again.

The Vikings quieted their recent slump Monday afternoon with a convincing doubleheader sweep of O-K Silver Conference rival Godwin Heights, 20-0 and 15-0. Reynolds regained her hitting stroke, putting up gaudy offensive stats like she did several weeks ago. She finished the day with six hits in seven at-bats and collected eight runs batted in.

Just like old times.

Meanwhile, freshman Hannah Brinks faced nine Godwin batters and struck out all of them in the opener.

Senior Sierra Smith also had three hits in the first game and Madeline Van Wagner and Peyton Roxbury both had two hits. Brinks and Reynolds both had a double.

Smith also yielded no hits in three innings of the nightcap and she struck out six and walked one.

Brinks and Emily Dimock both had a double and Ava Vanderkolk clubbed a triple.

Dimock also had three hits in game two and Smith, Roxbury and Madison Schwartz had two apiece.

The two merry romps follow a difficult stretch for the Lady Vikings, who went from 12-1 to 14-7 last week before bouncing back. They now own an 18-8 overall record and are 10-2 in the O-K Silver Conference, only behind perennial champion Calvin Christian.
