The Hopkins FIRST Robotics team has qualified for the Michigan Championship April 13-15 at Saginaw Valley State University.

The Tech Vikings built a robot to pick up gears and deliver them to a human player. The robot is very fast and maneuverable. It has four wheel drive and four wheel independent steering. This allows the robot to go around defenses while traveling at 17 feet per second.

The team won the district competition in Indiana March 12. Hopkins made the playoffs at Grand Valley State University and at Kentwood. The team has won the Innovation in Controls award three times.

The top 160 teams among 450 in Michigan will be competing to see who will qualify for the World Championships, which will be at the Edward Jones dome in St. Louis Missouri on April 29. There will be the top 400 teams from over 40 countries around the world.
