Hopkins school board seeks to fill one vacancy

Mike Maule, shown with his wife, Terri, has served 10 years on the Hopkins Board of Education.

Because the name of only one candidate appeared on the November general election ballot in a contest for two seats, the Hopkins Board of Education is seeking someone to be appointed to fill the vacancy.

Incumbent Karen Ryan was re-elected handily to her seat with 2,985 votes Nov. 6, but the other incumbent, Mike Maule, decided against seeking another four-year term and no one stepped in the fill the void.

The board intends to interview candidates Jan. 21 and appoint a candidate that night.

Interested citizens should send a letter expressing their interest to Board Secretary John Myers, Hopkins Public Schools, 400 Clark St., Hopkins, MI 49328. The letter must be received in the superintendent’s office no later than 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7.
