Bad news for opponents: Lyla Reynolds’ stroke at the plate is back in action.

The Hopkins softball team put on its hitting shoes Thursday afternoon to sweep a doubleheader against Holland Christian 16-6 and 12-2.

The Lady Vikings, who improved to 7-4 overall, racked up 22 hits in the opener and took both ends of the twin bill by 10 runs. They did most of their damage offensively in the last three innings, scoring four times in the fifth and sixth and five more times in the seventh.

They led only 3-0 after four frames before the offensive eruption.

Sophomore catcher Lyla Reynolds looked a lot like she did last year, coming up with five hits in five at-bats and driving home five runs. Joining the parade were Madison Schwartz, Cami Hibma and Kate Steffes with three hits apiece. Ava VanderKolk and Hannah Brinks added a couple more.

Reynolds unloaded a home run, Hibma and VanderKolk each contributed a triple and Brinks, Avery Osborn, Schwartz and VanderKolk each had a double. Schwartz also came up with three stolen bases.

Brinks went the distance on the mound, and though she was touched for six hits, only two of the six runs were earned.

Brinks came back to throw in the nightcap and had better success,  yielding just four hits and one earned run.

This time the Vikings were “limited” to 15 hits.

Osborn had three hits and Reynolds, Hibma, Peyton Roxbury and Jessica Spray each had two. Spray also collected three RBIs. VanderKolk and Osborn drove home two runs.

However Schwartz’s double was the only extra base hit for Hopkins.
