Colby Tucker of the Hopkins FFA chapter was announced as the 2025
Michigan FFA Star in Agricultural Production during the 97th Michigan FFA Convention March 6 at the Wharton Center in East Lansing.
The Star in Agricultural Production Award celebrates FFA members who exhibit outstanding proficiency and efficiency in managing agricultural enterprises and contribute to the advancement of agricultural practices.
Colby’s love for livestock started with sheep. He began Royal Court Show Stock alongside his sister, with a sheep flock that has proven to be successful both in the show ring and on the rail. Colby has grown his beef herd from one show heifer to 10 head that span multiple breeds.
What used to just be a break in calving and lambing season has now become maple syrup season for Colby. Alongside his dad, he taps, gathers, boils and bottles maple syrup for sale privately and in a local farm store.
Reflecting on his journey, Colby shared, “FFA has helped get me out of my comfort zone, pushing me to grow and become the leader I am today. All my livestock projects and my time processing maple syrup has instilled the lessons of perseverance and the drive to overcome obstacles by always moving forward.”
Colby’s selection for this prestigious award followed a comprehensive evaluation process, including an extensive application and balance sheet, farm visit, advisor and administrator interviews and a personal interview.
The other finalists for Michigan FFA Star in Agricultural Production were William Rogers from the Saline FFA chapter and Luke Volmering from the Ubly chapter, each demonstrating remarkable dedication and achievements in agricultural production.
The 2025 Michigan FFA Star in Agricultural Production Award is sponsored by
