Hopkins High School was host to the FFA regional leadership contests last Thursday night and two teams and an individual earned gold awards to advance to the state competition.
“It was a great night and I couldn’t be more proud of our kids for all all of their hard work and commitment for making it this far and for how much they have grown along the way,” said FFA Advisor Jessica Couch.
The gold award winners were the demonstration team of Lexie Wilson, MaKenna Davis and Laura Velderman and the ag issues team of Ashley Rodanhiser, Rachel Velderman and Megan Heft.
Other competing in teams or as individuals were
• Creed Speaking — Mariah Marvin, second place gold award and Maddie Bockheim, fourth place silver award.
• Greenhand Speaking — Sam Modreske, second place silver award.
• Junior High Speaking — Bailey Couch, second place gold award and Vanessa Veld, first place gold award.
• Junior High Conduct of Meetings — sixth place silver award with Maddie Douglas, Olivia Coffey, Olivia Hightower, Peyton Kukor, Haylie Kiraly, Lindsey Taylor, Lane Moored and Valerie Nagengast.
