The Hopkins Township Board Monday night adopted a 2024-25 fiscal year budget hovering around the half million dollar amount,
Revenues are expected to be $435,760, expenditures $530,052 and the fund balance will be $83,930.
The fiscal year will begin April 1 and end March 31,2025.
The board also adopted the fire budget in which the purchase of a new fire truck for about $400,000 will be acknowledged. The fire budget is 3.1 percent more than the year before.
HAFA expects to take in a total of $255,675 in revenue from the township, village and Watson and Monterey townships.
The Hopkins Area Fire Department is in a state of transition with the resignation of Fire Chief Robert Kerber, who will remain as a member of the department. Eric Alberta, wo is Hopkins Township Treasurer, has been appointed interim chief until October. Alberta has indicated he has no interest in serving as the chief beyond then,
The township’s road fund also is claiming $204,722 and it includes the intention of spending $300,000 of paving on 16th Street from 130th to 128th Avenue.
In other business Monday night, the Township Board:
- Noted that the last bill will be paid for the work done on the addition to the library that includes a new meeting room and township offices. Supervisor Mark Evans said of the architects ands contractors, “We’re done… I think they did a good job.”
- Estimated that it cost the township $300 per vote in the presidential primary for the nine-day early voting requirement. “It was not cheap to do early voting,” Evans said.
- Was told the Downtown Development Authority budget for the next year will be $50,000.
