The Hopkins Township Board will have to pare down what will be done on behalf of roads, and the reason is the usual — lack of money.
The board agreed to several projects, but then Supervisor Mark Evans noted a shortfall of $12,248 in the annual roads budget. Members then voted to let one of both graveling projects be dropped from plans.
Projects approved were:
• The resurfacing of 130th Avenue from 18th to 20th Street at a cost of $99,255, with the work to be done by the Allegan County Road Commission.
• Sharing of dust control services with Dorr Township along one mile of 136th Avenue for a total cost of $1,215 for three applications.
• Repair of the culvert on 136th Avenue at a cost of $19,500.
The board was asked about installing a rumble strip just before the corner of 130th and 22nd Street after a local citizen reported a semi blew through a stop sign at in the intersection.
It also was reported that the A-37 bridge just west of town will be open by Memorial Day for the first time in about a year.
The board plans to have a joint meeting with Hopkins Village July 19 with guest speaker District Judge William Baillargeron on the state of the Allegan County court system.
