Hopkins track teams score 3 firsts at Hastings Relays

The Hopkins boys’ and girls’ varsity track teams joined Delton, Hamilton, Battle Creek Pennfield and host Hastings Friday afternoon and evening in the Hastings Relays.

The Vikings managed to capture three firsts during the competition.

They checked in first in the special 200-100-100-200 sprint relay with a time of 1:24.1. Ace shot pout artists Mason Tomes and Grace Brenner both were first in their events, with Tomes tossing the sphere 46-8.5 and Brenner 35.5 feet.

Logan Klinge cleared 10 feet in the pole vault, but had to settle for third. Tomes was third in the discus, as was Jaeden Harshbarger in the high jump. The distance medley team was second in 13:26.51 in a race that featured 1200, 400, 800 and 1600 meters. Also capturing a runner-up placing was the 3200-meter relay quartet.
