A Hopkins Township man was killed Friday night in a truck crash near Hopkins Village.
Deputies with the Allegan County Sheriff’s office responded to report just before 10 p.m. of a fatal injury crash on 22nd Street north of the Hopkins Village Limit in Hopkins Township. Preliminary investigation showed that the man lost control of the pick-up truck after coming out of a curve. The vehicle went off the road, overturned and came to a rest in a field.
The driver of the pickup had been ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased on the scene. It was determined that the driver was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash and alcohol does appear to be a factor.
The driver’s name is being withheld because this is an ongoing investigation with the Sheriff’s Office Reconstruction Team.
Assisting on this call were Michigan State Police, Gun Lake Tribal Police, Wayland EMS and Hopkins Fire Department.
