Hopkins varsity hoops coach calls it quits

The Hopkins Public School system has placed an advertisement looking for. a new head varsity basketball coach.

Jake Jewett, a middle school social studies and computers teacher in Otsego, has been coaching the team at Hopkins since November 2017. Over eight seasons, he compiled an overall  record of 85-82.

His best season was 2018-19 when the Vikings went 15-5 and they turned in 15-7 and 14-7 seasons, but they faded to 5-18 this year and 7-16 the season before.

He began his teaching career in Arizona and taught in Australia and Jamaica. He graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in education with an endorsement in social studies.

He also coached basketball at Otsego High School.
