Hopkins, Wayland seasons end in volleyball districts

Both the Hopkins and Wayland High School volleyball seasons came to an end Monday evening in the opening round at the Division 2 district tournament at Hamilton.

Hopkins, O-K Silver Conference co-champion, beat South Christian in the opening game, but then lost the next three. Wayland lost in straight sets to tourney host Hamilton.

The Lady Vikings took the first set (26-24) but lost the next three (14-25, 11-25, 18-25). The girls finished the season with an 18-11 record and a conference co-championship.

Hopkins statistical leaders were:

  • Assists: Corrie Wisser 18, Lindsey Bulich 6.
  • Kills: Brianna Miller 16, Corrie Wisser 4, Lindsey Bulich/Mady Weber 3, Avery Roxbury 2.
  • Blocks: Brianna Miller/Natalie McDonald 2, Mady Weber 1.
  • Aces: Brianna Miller 4, Mady Weber 2, Corrie Wisser 1.
  • Digs: Lindsey Bulich 14, Maya Kerber 12, Corrie Wisser/Brianna Miller 11, Ryley Dykstra 7, Mady Weber 5.

The semifinal round will continue Wednesday night with Hamilton, South Christian, Allegan and Holland Christian competing.
