Hopkins will celebrate the Fourth on the Fourth

The community of Hopkins will have its annual 4th of July celebration on one day, Thursday, July 4.

A Freedom 5K run will get things under way at 7 a.m. and a free breakfast in the park downtown will be offered from 8 to 10 a.m. A non-denominational praise and worship service is slated for 9 to 10:30 a.m.The annual bed race, a somewhat unique event in Hopkins, will be held from 11 a.m. to noon downtown.

The pie baking and pet and baby photos contests will start at noon, with pie baking concluding at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. for the pets and babies.

Family games and music will be offered between noon and 3:30, a car show will get under way at 1 p.m., as will the traditional dunk tank.

The kids’ tractor pull will start at 2 p.m. and bounce houses will be available from 3 to 9 p.m.

The Kids’ Parade will step off at 4 p.m., followed by the community-wide parade at 5, with lineup behind the middle school.

The color guard will be present at 5:45 for the presentation of the national anthem, under the leadership of Boy Scout Troop No. 96.

The pie eating contest hosted by Main Street Bakery will be at 5 p.m. and the pie baking and photo contest winners will ne announced at 6:15.

The musical group Sheer Pandemonium will perform downtown from 6:15 to 9 p.m. Fireworks executed by Wyatt Frank will get under way at dusk.
