Howardsville Christian kept a solid lead throughout Wednesday’s district tournament semifinal contest, ultimately posting a 61-50 decision over Martin.

At the one-quarter mark, Howardsville was up 18 to 15 and led 37 to 21 at the half. The Clippers tried their best to keep up but, a strong offensive wave was too much for Martin as Howardsville stayed on top for the entire contest.

The Clippers put together a strong effort in the fourth quarter and at one point they managed to whittle the deficit to just three points, but Howardsville cashed in on free throws at the end to finish on top by 11 points.

Junior Cayden Curry led the effort for Martin, counting 10 points. Clayton Geerling dropped in nine and Michael Morey had eight. Howardsville Christian standout Dylan Jergens, kept his impressive reputation intact, notching 33 points.

After the victory over Martin, Howardsville, now 18-5, will be advancing to the district finals Friday night against Burr Oak in Martin.

The Clippers, who finished the season with a 9-13 record, graduate two seniors, Logan Elkins and Canton Vandenberg. Martin hoops returns next season with a wealth of talent on the bench and a new 800-seat home gymnasium.
